Law of motion

Newton's First Law of Motion: An object in motion stays in motion with the same speed and in the same direction unless acted upon by an unbalanced force.  I only shared the part of the definition applicable to me because we've recently hit an unbalanced force that is finally slowing us down. For the nearly 3 years we lived in Charleston, we lived life at a breakneck speed. Between traveling, work, and school, we had almost no spare time. And we loved it most of the time.  Now that we've moved, we are being forced to slow down.

I've fought the slow down, but small-town country life is stronger than me. =) I admit defeat. I've already started putting off trips to town because it's just. so. far.  It's not really, but it's far enough that it takes up a decent amount of time.  And just today that extra time has allowed me to drop some of the mommy guilt I've been piling on myself.  As you know, I have a weakness at mealtimes for running to the nearest restaurant. Part of it is because I just don't want to cook and clean up. =)  Most of it was for convenience.  Now that we've dropped most of the responsibilities that took up our spare time, I'm seeing how swamped I really was.  Yes, I could have done better with meal planning and sticking to the plan, but even that didn't solve the problem sometimes. We ate out because it was the one thing that I could sub out to someone else. I knew this in my head, but now that I have the extra time, I can really own it. As much as we ate out, and as much as part of my enjoyed it, I also hated it. Every time we went out because I hadn't prepared dinner or we were out all day, I felt guilty for not planning or preparing better.

Eating out is not convenient anymore. It's a chore to go all the way to town, and anywhere we'd go would have fries and chicken nuggets anyway. At least in Charleston, I could go to McAlister's Deli, Jason's, or even Jersey Mikes to avoid the fried food.  So we're eating at home. And now when we eat out, it will truly be enjoyable as a treat instead of another small failure in my daily life.

And now a quick rundown of country life experiences!

*Today while eating lunch (that I MADE), a scorpion started crawling down the middle of the table. A SCORPION. And we didn't even freak out about it. THAT's the real sign of change.

*BBE hates granddaddy long leg spiders. They're not really spiders, but I don't care. They look like spiders. Unfortunately for BBE, they are EVERYWHERE. Especially on the front porch. More than once, one has made its way onto BBE. He screams like he's being eaten alive by giant spider zombies. It's kind of funny. =)

*We haven't had air conditioning since we moved, and I haven't missed it once. I love having the windows open all the time!

*Finally, I miss having the internet. No, I really, really miss it. I miss netflix the most. I can put up with it for a few months because I can hop over to my parents' house and mooch off of their wifi. But internet really is an essential. Everyone should have have a right to wifi!!!
