Jam and other successes

A couple of months ago, I wrote a post entitled "Restlessness."  You can read it  here if you're so inclined. Now that I have a little more perspective, I can see that my restlessness was a warning that our lives were about to be jumbled around a little bit.   Thankfully, things have settled down some, and I've swung back in my homeschool mommy groove.  For the past couple of months we were trying to figure out possible job changes and waiting to see if Mr. Inc would be effected by the job furloughs that were threatened (he will be).  And that's fine. The worst part was waiting and not knowing for sure what would happen. Now we know, and we'll make it through. God will provide everything we need just like He always has. As for all the little things that were piling down on me, I've apparently shrugged that off too because Friday, I took the kids strawberry picking. Today, I made strawberry jam. Because, as I've already established, I'm awesome. ...

Early to bed, early to rise...

For the last...hmmm...11 years, sleep has been very hit and miss. Pregnancy, baby, toddler, pregnancy, baby, toddler, pregnancy, baby, toddler will do that to a person. I used to hate it when I'd tell my doctor that I was exhausted, expecting him to come up with some magic cure then hear those words I learned to loathe: "Well, you're very busy with small children. I wasn't sleeping regularly.  However, I've finally arrived to the next phase. I'm moving on from toddler to regular sleep again!  I can count on my kids going to bed and staying there until the next morning! Now here's my new problem. I loooooooove sleep. I am also a night owl. My best ideas come at night when everyone else is asleep.  Those two things are the perfect recipe for sleeping in.  Since we ...

When I have kids, I'll NEVER...

For the past few days I've been thinking about all the things I never imagined I would do or swore I would never do when I had kids.  I've had to eat my words quite a few times. If only all the things I thought I knew back then were true and applicable to real life. =) Specifically, this afternoon is what spurred me on to actual write about it. As I was making lunch for the kids earlier, I accidentally splattered butter and olive oil on my shirt. That meant I had to change. Since I wasn't leaving home for awhile, and was doing housework, I grabbed the first shirt I put my hands on with the intention of changing before we left for Mr. L's basketball game. You know, where real people would see me? Unfortunately, lunch took longer than I expected AND I'd forgotten that I needed to buy extra drinks because yes...today was the day I volunteered to bring snacks for the team  (By the way, here's #1- I never thought I'd be scatterbrained. Before kids, I was much ...
