I've found that the most profound, life-changing experiences always seem to happen at the most unexpected time. And it's never how you think it will happen. You wait, wonder, and pray for direction. You think you know where you're going, then BAM! Something comes out of left field and hits you in the head. After you wake up from the absurdity of that "something," it's so easy to see that you were walking straight towards this "thing" all along. The puzzle pieces fit snugly together in hindsight.  I think today must be one of those moments for me. If you'd asked me last week where and what our family would be doing a year from now, I couldn't tell you for sure, but I had it narrowed down to two different scenarios. Now, well...I think those might be out the window. We haven't made any real decisions, but I have that feeling in my heart. Like everything just locked into place. No trip is simple when kids are involved.

This is how today went down. This morning BBE slept in until 8:45 which he NEVER does. He said he didn't feel great, but he wasn't running a fever so I made the call to go ahead with our planned birthday zoo trip. I got the kids, snacks, and drinks ready, and then made the decision to dose the kids with Benadryl. They all have allergies. BBE has never actually had Benadryl before so I gave him the smallest amount as a test run. We piled into the car. Yes, CAR. The car uses half as much gas and has air conditioning. Since my van's AC has gone on an extended vacation and we were going on a 1.5 hr drive to Columbia, I opted for the car. The Benadryl kicked in about 40 minutes later. How do I know this? Well, Mr. L suddenly got very sleepy at the exact same time that BBE went all psycho toddler on me. He started hitting himself, kicking my chair, and in true BBE form, tried to take his clothes off. The carseat prevented a full strip down, but he did manage to get his socks ...
