Adulting with joy again!

Friends, something wonderful has begun in the last few days. I am reverting back to the more chill version of myself. I realized this on Saturday although it won't sound like a turning point. I think the shift actually began on Friday, but it took me an extra day to feel the ship swinging around. Friday, I had nothing scheduled. Nothing. NOTHING. I had no classes, plays, practice, meetings, or appointments. It was glorious. We stayed home. I did laundry. I rearranged some furniture. I cleaned out the refrigerator. I took Tommy driving. I got coffee. It was a lovely day. That evening I took the kids to the book store and we all picked out a book. Tommy was even excited to have time to read books he actually wants to read instead of reading more British lit. We grabbed dinner near the airport so we'd be close by to pick up Jon when his plane landed. It was a much needed unscheduled day. Saturday I had some director training to do all day, but I woke up entirely too early and ...

Idolized planners and more...

I'll admit I'm not feeling the writing magic flow through my fingers tonight so I'll jump right into it. I tried making a video, but I couldn't stop rambling. I am a stream of consciousness train wreck at the moment. We are at the crescendo of homeschooling furor. The end of the year always brings big projects, performances, grading, evaluating, registration for next year (AS IF I want to think about next year when I'm in the middle of this year's drawn out, agonizing, dying breath).  Also, the weather is as stable as Brittany Spears in 2007.  Today was Charlotte's last play. I signed up to bring turkey roll ups to the after party potluck. I dutifully bought all of the ingredients yesterday, I THOUGHT. Then I woke up early this morning to make them and realized my tortillas were too small. They would not roll. Plan B was chips from Harris Teeter. I felt bad because I was the mom that brought chips to a party that I fully intended to use as lunch for me an...

Digging out of the mess

I know I've been the doom and gloom, dark and twisty Mindy lately. It happens. What can I say? I have never been able to sustain rainbows and butterflies for long. In 6th grade I remember having this writing project in one of my classes. We were supposed to write and illustrate a poem about ourselves. Mine was all "jagged rocks" and "dark clouds". I thought it was normal until they put everyone's final project on the wall in the hallway, and all the other girls had colorful rainbow pictures. I was not dismayed. It only confirmed in my heart that I was a deep pool while they were shallow puddles. As you can see, my gift of rationalization and arrogance presented itself early in life. But seriously, it was hard being 12 years old! I was an awkward mess of an adolescent complete with huge bangs, pimples, and disproportionately sized limbs on a stick body. My poem was truth. And now I'm almost a week into April. I must say that I have deeply appreciated al...
