Epic battles with a 3 yr old

Image
It is Thursday. Oh that it would be Sunday. Sunday is when we have our sweet little girl's birthday party. Sunday is the day before Monday when we will take the kids to Great Wolf Lodge and laugh at winter while we play at the indoor waterpark. But no. It's Thursday. The day of my imminent defeat. I quit. I surrender. I rose for battle and was laughed at by my foe.  And just who is this foe that vanquished me so completely?  Well, here he is. Isn't he adorable? He's three now. His birthday was just last week.  This fantastically sweet bundle of cuteness is usually a fairly easy child to handle. As easy as a 3 year old can be anyway.  A couple of weeks ago, I decided it was past time to get this little guy potty trained. I'd never waited so long to potty train a child before, so we started out. There was only one little problem. BBE, recently demoted back to A.T. for Average Toddler, didn't want to go to the potty. He was scared to go to...

Restlessness

I've been described as restless lately. It's that awful feeling when I want something to change, am waiting for things to change, but I'm not sure what I want to change, or how to make that change happen. Just stop right now and pray for my husband who has to live with me through all this. . . . . . . Since we're not leaving Charleston (not that I necessarily want to, I'd just like a change of scenery), and I can't travel to the places I'd like to go, I've been a bit moody over the last month. Again, pray for my poor husband. ;)  Potty training, cooking, laundry, and the other million little chores have lost what little luster they had in my eyes. I know these things are important, but it's honestly not how I'd like to spend my days. But then who does?  All of the homey, mommy stuff that I used to do and at least somewhat enjoy just annoy me now. I don't care about making perfect bows for presents or setting that perfect mantle. I trie...

Drive your husband to work day. At 6am.

"My car won't start."  *Disgusted tone* Those are the words that woke me a few minutes before 6am. I know that's not early for most of you. It might even be late for a few of you. For me, it's early. Too early. Especially since I barely slept last night.  So what do you do when your husband walks in the room, announces that his car won't start, and you know that he needs to go to work while you have things to do later that day? You get dressed, wake up the kids, and drive your husband to work. In silence. Because everyone (except said husband) is half asleep and you might been the teensiest bit irritated that he didn't try to get the car fixed the day before. So we're driving dad to work. The kids are in pjs. There is NO traffic because everyone else knows that there's something wrong with being up so early on a Saturday.  Even the scary section we have to drive through is completely safe and empty. It's that magical time between late nigh...

2013 goals...a little late.

I chose to start my new year a week later than everyone else. Hopefully that won't set the tone for the rest of the year. Before setting any new goals for the year, here's my list from last January. NOT moving Going deeper with the academics in school Getting to know our church better Starting a bible study/small group in our home Going to the beach and pool more Eating at home (this one is the ever constant albatross around my neck) Getting the tattoo I've been thinking about for the last 5 months                                   and for fun... Learning how to snowboard! Oh, and exercise more, lose 10 pounds, blah blah blah... ;-)     How did this year go? Let's see.       1. √  We did NOT move! SCORE! Got my first goal down! ...

"Crossing the Bar"

Our December was not a picture perfect Norman Rockwell that culminated in a beautiful Christmas day. We started off the month doing events every day of the first week. It was exhausting but fun. The next Tuesday, Mr. Incredible went off on a last minute work/play trip with his friend. The day after he left, the kids and I went up to visit family because my grandfather was in the hospital and not doing well. I got one of those nudges from God that I needed to go visit, and who am I to argue with God? We came back Thursday, went to lunch with a friend on Friday, and got hit with the flu on Friday afternoon. Yes, the flu really does hit suddenly. I was walking in Target with the kids when IT hit. I was suddenly hot and kind of light headed. We got out as fast as we could, and I stayed in bed for 5 days. The kids subsisted on pizza that I ordered online (Thank GOD for Papa John's, Dominoes', and Pizza Hut's online ordering!) and Christmas candy a friend had given us. Mr. Inc ma...
