The birthday story...

Image
I'm going to tell you a short but true story. After a week packed with various projects all coming together at the same time, I was tired. Sunday was my planned day of rest. I mean, yeah,  it was Sunday, but it was going to be EXTRA restful for me. It was my day to come down from a slammed week. Jon and I were supposed to go out to dinner for my birthday and have a date night before Jon leaves for a work trip. That afternoon, Jon said he'd get something for the kids for dinner, and then we'd go out by themselves. I took a nap. When I came downstairs around 6:30 ready to go, I expected the kids would have food, and we would leave. What I found were three hungry kids and four people watching TV. Sigh. Basically, I'd gone upstairs and taken a nap while everyone waited for me to reappear for things to happen again. At some point, Jon realized what was going on and offered to go to the store. He had not yet realized the evening was already undone. In the end, I switched ...

Let's Throwback to Mother's Day!

Hello friends. I hope you've enjoyed your Mother's Day weekend. Yes, it's now Wednesday and the weekend is beyond over. What can I say? I've been extra busy with coordinating our CC practicum that's happening next week. In less than a month, I will be completely done with practicums and free to enjoy my summer. Still, I had thoughts from the weekend that I wanted to share so you get Throwback: Mother's Day Edition. Yeah, I should do that. But also, I took a really good, hard nap on Saturday afternoon because my people are e...

And now for mornings...

As you probably know, I am generally not a morning person. As I persevere through my plan to take control of my time, I'm moving onto my next phase. My plan started with making "No" my default answer, replacing the ill-advised "Yes" habit I'd slipped back into. That in itself was a huge help to me. I didn't realize how many times I was saying yes to invites, commitments, phone calls, etc. automatically only to juggle too many things that I really had no business juggling. The next part of my plan included the beautiful, overpriced planner. And the menu planner subscription. And the online grocery shopping. The online grocery and menu planner are more of a stop gap to get me out of crisis mode, and they got me cooking at home again.  Now I'm here, moving on to phase 3: Mornings. Mornings have never been my thing. I am slow to get up. I scroll through Facebook for too long. Jon works second shift so he gets home late and is home in the morning. It m...
