The cycle of stuff
When Mr. Incredible and I were engaged, we were completely and utterly broke. What do totally broke people do when they have no furniture and are determined to get married anyway? They ask if anyone has any extra furniture they'd like to give to a loving home. Seriously, LOVE was all we had at the time! People (mostly family) gave us a couch, chairs, tables, end tables, electronics, and dressers. The only thing we didn't have was a bed...which was kind of important...
Anyway, God always provides what we need, and we happened to have some friends that were also getting married. They were given TWO beds (they were also broke, in love, and determined to get married), and they passed one of the beds onto us. Problem solved. We had a fully furnished apartment by the time we were married. Let me just stop and say one thing. Isn't it amazing how much extra stuff we all have? All one has to do is ask, and they can have a fully furnished apartment for free! Seriously, how many of you have extra FURNITURE in your house?!?!?
Well, up until today, we actually had an extra bed. We'd finally gotten a new bed, and our old one was taking up space in our room. I decided that today was the day to pass the bed onto a new home and free up some space. I loaded it up in the van all by myself because I'm awesome that way, and dropped it off at Goodwill. YES! I'd gotten rid of our extra stuff!!! End of story...or is it?
You see, Mr. Logical has been asking for a desk of his own for a long time. I made it very clear that a personal desk was very low on my priority list. Basically, we'd have to find a nice, small desk for free if he was to have any chance of getting a desk right now. Can you see where this is going? Just as I'm basking in the glory of my decluttering win, what do I see? Yes. We see a nice, small, white desk. For free. Someone was moving and didn't want to bring it with them. I never even drive to that side of our community, but for some reason, I did tonight.
Mr. L's face lit up. He knew this was it, and how could I say no? We loaded it up in the van and took it home. It's now sitting next to my kitchen table. God listened to my little man, and provided exactly what he wanted on the very same day that I cleared up some space in our apartment. It doesn't get much better than that.
So to sum things up, we gave away a bed that was given to us, only to be given a desk instead. I do love it when things work out in such a way that you KNOW God orchestrated it. I also love that God was showing my little guy that He loves us and cares about our wants and needs no matter how small they may seem.
